Weigh-in Day & It Finally Happened

Goal weight: 145 lbs

Today's weight: 140.6 lbs

Did you see what I posted on Facebook on Wednesday night?

Yep.

The dreaded official "PB" or Productive Burp happened.

It only took me until 3 yrs, 9 months post-op.

I was eating a protein bar way too fast, not paying attention to my chewing.

And.

BAM.

Stuck.

Saliva pooling up in my mouth.

Standing over the bathroom sink.

Strings of slime (AKA spit) pouring out of my mouth.

Chest tightness.

Super tight.

Yikes.

Being super unexperienced with the PB, I decided drinking some water would help.

Nope.

A few sips of water and I quickly realized that was a BAD idea.

More standing over the sink with slime pouring out of my mouth.

But a simple cough-like move and up it all came, protein bar, water, all of it.

Phew!

I thought that this experience would be more like vomiting.

But it is not.

By the way, did you see Catherine's recent post about her worst stuck episode ever?  Go check it out.

  1. Yikes! That is an awful, awful feeling! Each time I come close to having an episode and I get "that look" on my face, my husband says "here, drink something!" NOT A GOOD IDEA (he still doesn't get it!).
I felt terrible that poor Catherine had to have that experience on her wedding weekend! But, like you, she got herself through it!
    Thanks for sharing!
    Onward!

  3. Yep, sliming is absolutely not fun. It doesn't happen often, but like you, if I'm not paying attention it hits and then there is nothing I want more than to get it out. Sorry it happened to ya!

  4. Yikes...... my worst was when I was daintily (NOT) eating some chicken & broccoli with pork-fried rice. Once I realized I was super stuck... I did all my tricks: jump up and down, fold laundry, (while taking breaks to slime into the sink in the kitchen) laying on the floor, on my left side (with a slime-bowl next to me)

4 HOURS later...... it became very apparent that it was going to stay status-quo. It wasn't coming up, nor was it going down.

Went to my local ER (at the hospital that I KNEW was well versed...... there's another local that is NOT) that lovely ER doc unfilled me, he left the needle inserted, and the food immediately went down..... He then popped me through a CT scan to make sure I didn't have a slippage, or have any damage. Once it was confirmed that all was as it should be, he filled me back up. I was at 6.5cc in a 14cc band (and had been for about 1.5 years... i stay in green zone for long periods of time) so I told them...... why don't we just put back in 5cc for now, and if I need to be adjusted, I will be.

I'm actually still really good at 5cc. I did have an initial weight gain of about 10 pounds, but I think my body was MAD at me. That 10 pounds flushed off over the course of 3 weeks, and I'm still back to maintaining. At this level of fill, I have only had 1 more "stuck" episode...... because I don't learn my lesson, it was on my chinese dinner of chicken and broccoli, with pork fried rice. I am a moron. :D

  6. Wow! I tend to have those same symptoms every time I eat turkey breast, and I've never had lap band surgery:/

  8. I have those episodes anytime I eat anything dry. Bread, chicken breast, or any kind of meat really. except HB meat. My first time it happened I was at work! Im a bar tender and somebody brought me some Chinese food. "Orange Chicken". OMG, I thought I was going to die! lol I kept spitting, sticking my finger down my throat, trying to throw it up. ....Nothing helped. My eyes were watering, make-up running down my face and people kept coming in and asking for drinks. Ughhhh! I'll never forget it! ...and I'll NEVER eat orange chicken again. Just the thought of it scares me to death. lol

  9. This is one of my biggest fears of having lap band! So many people talk of this! You were the only one I've read who never had one! If I can be like you and get ONE in years and years then good deal. but I am just so not wanting this on a daily basis!

  10. I don't know how you managed over three years without one! I eat fast and always have. It is still my biggest problem...remembering to chew that is. My worst clog lasted 45 minutes and I thought I was going to die it hurt so bad. I am more carefull after that. My doctor told me the worst she had ever heard about was 3 hours. I don't even want to think about that one. I will say I do keep empty cups in the car, and at the office, just in case. The wedding story was classic! I have to show that one to my husband so he will catch on quick if I ever need to use that move.

  12. Yep, it sucks. It was happening to me on a weekly basis for 6 months. The water was actually a fun trick I learned from a fellow bandster at work. She told me that if you ever get stuck and it won't move have a sip of water. It works instantly for me. Sadly, I've become an expert PBer :( But I'm on the road to recovery now.
